hypnothreapy training - a different approach

Most hypnotherapy training provided in the UK assumes a clinical model of illness, despite hypnotherapy actually being an holistic therapy. By a clinical model of illness I mean the type of model that we are all familiar with when we visit a GP for example, that is, the GP will look at our symptoms and attempt to match them with a known illness that exhibits the same symptoms; the list of illnesses and their symptoms being known as the DSM4.

There are a number of problems for the majority of practising hypnotherapists with this approach, not least of which is thst they do not have a medical degree and lack training in diagnostic techniques.

Fortunately the clinical model isn't the only model available. If we treat each client as an individual (rather than a list of symptoms) and place their 'illness' in a context of their lifestyle, domestic setting and community we can construct what is knows as their 'story' of the illness. Using hypnotherapy, NLP and other more indigenous practises we can then assist them to rewrite their story to one of health and wholeness; This is but one branch of a shamanic approach to illness. At Talking Cures Training we cover both of the above approaches (and more) to give our students more options when dealing with real clients.
